Meet new people from around the world, become involved in bettering your local community, and hone your teaching skills by becoming a literacy volunteer!

Volunteers:

  • Receive 12 hours of free training.
  • Assist individuals who need English as a Second Language (ESL) instruction or help English speaking adults improve their reading and writing skills.
  • Meet with their assigned student for 1 to 1.5 hours per week at the Emerson Public Library at a mutually convenient time.

For more information, visit the website of Literacy Volunteers of Pascack Valley.

ESL Classes

The Emerson Public Library hosts one-on-one ESL classes taught by local volunteers. To sign up for classes, please visit the library and fill out an application card with your name, contact information, and what days/times you are available. We will give this card to the ESL coordinator, Fran Ianora, who contacts students directly to arrange classes.
